The Billboard Hot 100 All-Time Top Songs (#7)

For years, Pat Boone's four daughters had zero luck trying to penetrate the music industry as an all-girl act.  However, things were going to change for lead singer Debbie when record executive Mike Curb chanced upon the instrumental track of the then upcoming movie, YOU LIGHT UP MY LIFE.

Mike convinced Debbie to record lyrics over the music, and the result was a No. 1 hit that stayed in Billboard's Hot 100 for 10 weeks beginning October 1977--an accomplishment that was a first for any female artist. The song eventually won an Oscar for best original song, beating among others, NOBODY DOES IT BETTER from the movie THE SPY WHO LOVED ME, and SOMEONE'S WAITING FOR YOU from THE RESCUERS.  Debbie, on the other hand, won a Grammy for best new artist.

I can still remember Debbie belting out the refrain during the Grammy Awards.  In case you've forgotten, here's a clip:

The countdown to the top song of all time resumes soon.  No. 6 is from a female foreign act who revamps her style....
